Bicycles are a wonderful way to get around town. They save gas and are great exercise. However, the people (commuters) that ride them can be a real pain in the ass. Well, they're more like an irritating skin rash, somewhat tolerable, but not pleasant to deal with.
How about when you're trying to drive down the street and a bicyclist is hogging the road? I don't get why they have to take up the whole damn lane when there is plenty of room to ride near the curb.
I don't mind sharing the road, but I hate that bicyclists don't obey traffic laws. Well, if you want to share the road with me, I expect that you won't run stop signs, will signal a turn, will stop (not just slow down) at red lights, and won't weave in and out of traffic. Don't get me wrong, I have done some of these things that piss me off. Hypocrisy at it's finest, right?
This is not a one time irritation. I deal with this every day. They ring their bells to let me know they're behind me as I'm crossing the pedestrian/bike bridge to get to the bus stop. I always walk over to the right as far as I can. If they need more room, then tough shit. They weave in and out of traffic as I'm stopped at a stop light.
I know I'm generalizing, but I just had to vent. I'm sure for every asshole bicyclist there is another respectful, law-abiding one. The same goes for drivers. Maybe if gas keeps going down, there will be less irritating bicyclists to ruin my morning commute. As my dad would always say, "Dream on, broomstick cowboy!"
